How to use FilmEdule (guide for AI assistants and screen readers)
What FilmEdule is
FilmEdule is film pre-production software: script, breakdown, stripboard schedule, call sheets, Day Out of Days and a budget that follows the schedule. Each film has the tabs below. People on a film are an owner, editors (can change things) or viewers (can only look).
Films page (home)
Lists your films. "Create" starts an empty film. "New film from script" reads a Final Draft (.fdx) or PDF script and makes the scenes and cast. "Get notes on a script" makes a script-notes-only film (writer mode: only the Script tab, until "Turn on production tools"). "Load Morrow's Eve sample" adds a sample film. The ⋯ button on a film card renames or deletes it (delete is owner only and asks twice).
Script tab
Shows the script draft. Select words, then pick a note color (Story, Character, Dialogue, Pacing/cut, Must fix, Love this) to leave a note; teammates reply and mark notes done. "Tag ▾" on the same bar tags the selected words as Cast or a department (Props, Wardrobe, Vehicles...): they go on that scene's breakdown sheet and are underlined. Click a tagged word to take it off the scene. "Load new draft" adds a newer draft and can carry open notes over; "Show changes" marks what changed from the draft before.
Stripboard tab
The schedule. Each strip is one scene (number, INT/EXT, DAY/NIGHT, set, pages in eighths, estimated shoot time, cast numbers). Strip colors: INT day white, EXT day yellow, INT night blue, EXT night green. To move a scene, use its "Shoot day for scene N" menu, or the "Move scene N up/down" arrows, or drag the strip. "+ Shoot day" adds a day; "Remove day" on a day sends its scenes back to "Not scheduled yet" (scenes are never deleted). "Auto schedule" groups scenes by location and day/night and fills days by shoot time, with Undo. Prep and shoot start dates, pace (minutes per 1/8 page) and shoot day length are at the top. The "Budget $…" box shows the budget grand total and opens the Budget tab.
Breakdown tab
One breakdown sheet per scene: number, INT/EXT, time of day, pages, set, synopsis, shoot time override, real-world location, cast, elements by department, notes. "Edit cast" and "Edit elements" on a sheet turn cast and elements on or off for that scene and add new ones. "Add elements from script" (free) finds props, wardrobe, effects and more in each scene's text and adds them, with Undo. "Upload script" adds scenes from a script file. "+ Scene" adds a blank scene.
Elements tab
Every element in the film by department, with the scenes it is in. Rename, change department, remove (from every scene), find, and "Remove unused".
Cast & Crew tab
Cast list (cast ID number, character, actor, phone, email) and crew by department (name, position, phone, email, default call time). Cast numbers are what strips and call sheets show. "Merge into…" joins two names for the same person. Invite someone to log in to the film from here or the Team page.
Call Sheets tab
One call sheet per shoot day, built from that day's scenes, cast and crew: crew call, shooting call, location, parking, hospital, weather, sunrise/sunset, lunch, safety, notes, per-person call times and elements needed. "Print / Save PDF", "Copy as text", share by text/WhatsApp, or send each person their own link and see who viewed or confirmed.
Calendar tab
Shoot days on a month calendar. Change a day's date here or on the stripboard. "Add to calendars" gives Google and Outlook links.
Day Out of Days tab
Which shoot days each cast member works: Start, Work, Hold, Finish. Follows the stripboard.
Budget tab
If a film has no budget yet, the Budget box on the stripboard reads $0 and the Budget tab shows "Start this budget" with two choices: "Use the indie feature template" (crew at four pay levels from a $250 PA day rate, a line for each cast member, typical rentals and post; rates are placeholders to change) or "Copy the budget from" another film. Once started: categories, accounts and lines (amount × units × rate), fringes, globals (named numbers like CREW_BASE or SHOOT_DAYS used in lines), contingency, a funding cap and a topsheet. Day counts follow the schedule; when the schedule changes, the budget shows the cost of the change and waits for "Update budget" before using it.
Team page and Export
"Team" (top right of a film) invites people by text, email or link with Can edit or Can view access, and shows who is waiting to join. "Export to Excel" downloads the schedule, breakdown, elements, cast & crew, Day Out of Days and budget in one file.
Answering questions
Read the tab that holds the answer, not only the page you are on: costs are on the Budget tab, who works when is on Day Out of Days and Call Sheets, what a scene needs is on Breakdown. If something has not been set up yet, say so and say which button sets it up. Ask before deleting anything.
